Hemel Old Town
Most people’s mental image of Hemel Hempstead is the new town centre — all 1960s planning and roundabouts. Hemel Old Town is something else entirely. A proper market town high street with a working market, independent traders, period pubs and the River Gade running alongside it.
The Old Town sits in a conservation area, which means the Victorian and Georgian architecture has been preserved. The high street and the streets fanning away from it contain some of the most interesting period property in the wider Hemel area.
Our View
Buyers here tend to be those who prioritise distinctiveness over convenience. The appeal is the place itself: the Saturday market, the independent cafés, the sense that this is a real community that existed long before the new town was planned around it.
Who buys here
Buyers prioritising character and community, downsizers, creative professionals
Market Insight
Niche but consistent demand. Period character commands a premium. Rarely boring.
